Day 1 - Monday September 8, 2008

I woke up this morning at 5 am. I was kind of excited all night because I can't wait to get this wait off of my chest, and back, and legs, well you get my drift.

When I weighed myself this morning I weighed in at 289 LBS. Now take into account that I am only 5'9" tall so 289 LBS is a lot of weight for a short guy.

From the scale I headed into exercise. I am lucky enough to have a little bit of exercise equipment at my house in a spare room. I have a treadmill and an All-In-One weight set that only a couple of the exercises work.

This morning I walked 30 minutes on the treadmill. I used this time to search my head and to figure my next move. That is how I came up with this blog idea. During which I burned 300 calories, or at least thats what the machine said.

After the treadmill I lifted some weights. Throughout my life I have always heard that lifting weights, watching what you eat, and cardio is the keys to losing weight. I couldn't tell you if that is true or not. I haven't been thin since 2000 (I will tell you this story later).

As for my weights, I don't know how much weight I was lifting because the weights didn't come marked and there is some kind of resistance formula and all that kind of stuff. All I know is that it was heavy enough for me to rip the muscles but not kill myself.

I worked out my chest, shoulders, and triceps. The magic number when I was in high school was 3 sets of ten. I stick with that philosophy.

This morning at about 10 minutes till 7 am I made breakfast for my girls. I ate 2 scrampled eggs with shredded cheese and 2 peices of fried bologna.

I know what your thinking. Cheese, egg yolks, bologna? My goodness he is going to give himself a coronary.

I view this food a little different than most people see it.

The eggs are a great source of protein. Yeah the yolk is where all the cholesterol is but I don't have time in the morning to fight with an egg yolk. The cheese is also another cholesterol counter but I only use real cheese. Cheese is also a great source of protein. Both the cheese and the eggs have few if any carbs. The bologna on the other hand has only two grams of carbs and 4 grams of protein per slice. The carbs help my body get going and burning calories in the morning. I also had a 16oz water and 2 glass of tea sweetened by Sweet 'n' Low.

At about 8:30, while at work I had a Diet Coke. I work as a sales person, behind a desk all day so there is no burning calories.

At 11:00 I eat my lunch. I usually always take my lunch with me because anywhere I go to eat, all I want is the stuff that is going to keep this semi-truck tire around my waste.

Today I had 2 cans of tuna with one spoonful of regular mayonaise, some spicy brown mustard, garlic powder, and olives. Next time I will do without the olives because of the sodium. It was good and easy. The problem that I had was that I still felt hungry after I ate. I found out that if you start doing something else that your body will stop feeling hungry. I started working on this blog during my lunch hour and before I knew it I felt quite full. I guess the food needs time to expand. I also had a 16oz water with my lunch.

At 2:30 I had a 100 calorie yogurt. It was Lemon Meringue and very tasty. After I finished I had another water. The water and the yogurt together made me feel full and it also curbed my sweet tooth with a "better for you than chocolate" alternative.

When I got home I cooked boneless porkchops (I will put up some of these recipes because I've been told I was a good cook), seasoned pan seared mushrooms, french style green beans, and baked beans. I had only one plate, one scoop of each, and only one pork chop. I used to try and finish everything that was left so this is a big step for me.

Now I'm here putting together this journal and hoping someone will read it and maybe even get inspired by it and want to do what I am trying to do. I'm feeling a little hungry, but it is all about will power. I will not let this beat me. So just to ensure that I don't get anymore urges to eat, I think I'm going to turn in early. I have another busy day tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.
